Rendezvous at Emmanuel Croydon

Summer Rendezvous (1200x1200)Join us this August (Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th and Friday 11th August) for our Summer Holiday at Home for older people.

This year our theme is ‘Hopes and Dreams’, and we would love to invite you to join us for mornings of games and craft, literature and our very popular thought for the day and afternoons of quizzes, films and musical entertainment!

Sign up below and join us for a morning, afternoon or all three days.

Rendezvous began in August 2008 as a three day Holiday at Home for people who could not get away on holiday themselves, maybe because they are housebound. It has been such a success that, as well as running the annual summer Holiday, we now run a mini-Rendezvous three times a year with all the same activities but on a smaller scale.

It’s mainly for those over 60 and we have had guests who are over 90. There are also a few wheelchairs buzzing about.

The idea is to invite people who live on their own or don’t get out much, and spend some time together with plenty of laughter. There is also a Thought For the Day to introduce the Christian message and a good display of Christian books to borrow.

The guests are brought by our wonderful team of drivers. After registering, they are invited to look around at the various activities on offer. These include a great many different crafts, card games, board games and puzzles or just sitting and knitting and chatting. In the summer we extend into the church where we play darts and skittles and even play bowls up the chancel. Another fun-activity is throwing Frisbees (church cushions) into the font! Guests are also invited to try some simple physical exercise.

We always have a delicious lunch together and then the afternoon activity is a film, a singalong, a quiz or entertainment provided by some talented church members.

There are usually about 30 guests there with lots of willing helpers. People make new friends and, best of all, enjoy the laughter and happy buzz of conversation. The guests leave feeling they have really enjoyed themselves, after having had a lot of fun and heard something about the love of God.

If you, or anyone you know, would like to come and join us, then do get in touch and we will get details of the next Rendezvous to you.
