Thank you for your prayers. I thank the Lord for two pain free weeks and good nights of sleep. Please continue to pray that this continues and that the doctors are able to resolve the issue of some numbness in one area of my neck. Kristy

Please surround all the family with Gods love and peace in the days ahead. And in my own grief, grant me compassion together with my sister, to be a support to Mum, practically, emotionally and spiritually, in the rawness of this journey.

Psalm 139: 13-14 – For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Heavenly father, we praise you for the gift of life. News comes as princes Eugenie gives birth to a baby boy. May we take the time to remember our lives as children with the moments of joy, learning, bonding, and developing that have brought us to who we are today. May remember our childlike inquisitive mind to learn more about and understand you. We pray for all parents, young and old who have worked hard to raise younger people to build a world to focus on you and thank you for your hard work in caring for us as we continue to grow and develop ourselves.

Father God, our hearts go out to all those dealing with difficulties with the cold this winter. There those who struggle with paying for heating, those who struggle with travel to work and there are those are who are further isolated by snow. May those people know your love, your kindness and strength. We pray we can help those people wherever we can to bring joy and peace in their lives, despite the circumstances.

May we have no fear in our minds and no worry in our hearts for we know you are at the centre of all.

Psalm 139: 15-16 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Ephesians 3:20-21

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

We thank you for the reducing numbers of daily COVID cases, deaths and the reducing number of people in hospital. We pray for wisdom for all those making decisions about when to end the current lockdown and ease restrictions. We pray that would be guided by what is best and safest for all people.

We pray for those facing financial uncertainty over the need to upgrade combustable cladding. We pray particularly for the Salmon Youth Centre. We pray that financial help would be available to them as they upgrade the cladding on the flats above the Centre.

As we brace ourselves for one of the coldest nights in the last decade, we pray for safety for those travelling for work in it; for those who cannot afford to heat their homes; and for those who are having to spend the night on the streets.

'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls'

Heavenly Father, we thank you that to date over 12 million people have received their first Corona virus vaccination. Although there are ambiguities around protection for some mutated viruses, we thank you that this is still good news, and that hospital admissions and deaths are decreasing. Help us, your body, to stay close to you, so that we can offer hope and love to those around us. Prompt each one of us to be creatively proactive in reaching out to others.

Heavenly Father, our hearts go out to those in North India after a glacier collapsed into a river, further collapsing a dam and triggering huge floods. We are filled with grief as the numbers continue to rise, at present 26 dead and 165 missing. Father we lift up the rescue operation to you. We pray that those on the rescue mission will be guided by your spirit and find people trapped underneath the mud and debris. For those that have lost family, homes and livelihoods, we ask that you, God of comfort, will draw near. Mobilise the church to be your very present body in this area to offer support in whatever way is needed.

And finally Father we thank you that throughout lockdown, one of the joys we have is that we are able to appreciate the marvel of your creation. Lord, your creation is vibrant, complicated, awe-inspiring and wonderfully connected. Its complexity and grandeur reflect your very being. Lord teach us more about you as we ponder your creation as the Psalmist did.

And finally Father, we thank you that as you take care of all the intricacies in all your creation, you also take care of us with the same precision and compassion. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving us.

Thank you for all that Captain Tom came to mean to this nation during the last year of his life and for the astonishing success of his walks round his garden in the days leading up to his hundredth birthday. We have lost a national treasure. May the example of his gentle wisdom, good humour and humility continue to inspire others to believe, in these dark days for our nation, that they have something to offer and can make a difference in the world. May he rest in peace, and may his family find consolation in the nation’s great love for him.

Thank you for Professor Chris Whitty, Sir Patrick Vallance and all the scientists, medics, epidemiologists and statisticians who advise our government. Thank you that so much is understood about viruses and the way they spread, for without such knowledge the effects of this pandemic would be far, far worse. Thank you for their ability to give clear explanations of complex matters, for their calm and careful responses to every question they are asked, and for their dedication to their work.

Thank you for all the people involved in the development of vaccines or in making them available to the whole population. They really have brought the “light at the end of the tunnel” much closer.

Today I pray for young children. They may be confused about why they can’t go to school or see their friends, and they may be unnecessarily fearful of the virus. May they be helped to understand, and may the love shown to them dispel their fears.

I pray for young people. Their education is disrupted, and, because the virus is unlikely to make them seriously ill, they may be tempted to ignore Covid restrictions and risk spreading the disease to others. Help them to be patient and cautious.

And I pray for the elderly, who may be confused about why they still have to live under restrictions even though they have had the vaccine. Grant them your comfort and peace.

May the Lord grant to us all the precious gift of sleep this night. Amen.

The heavens are telling the glory of God: and the firmament proclaims his handiwork (Ps 19: 1)

The continual flow of information, and lack of information, surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic seems to fill all of our thinking. The restrictions on our freedom to move around and to meet with friends and family seem without end. We continue to pray for your guidance and loving support for all of your people as together we feel our way to a new and safer time. We pray that when that time arrives that you, Lord Jesus, will declare our collective endeavours to be good, just and fair.

There are many other challenges at this time, which would normally receive more attention. We ask that you continually remind us that we should be doing your will in rising to those challenges.

We read that the economic costs of both Brexit and a possible break up of our United Kingdom could be hugely damaging. As usual, the greatest impact will fall on those least able to carry the burden. We pray that you will guide our political leaders as they plan and make decisions that will affect us all, and that they will set aside the demands of the few and ensure that the needs of everyone are satisfied fairly and equitably.

The review of biodiversity loss by Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta shows very clearly the impact of our inadequate care for your generous creation. The rate of global ice loss is accelerating. And yet, Lord Jesus, we know that as individuals we cannot solve these huge challenges. Guide us in making our choices so that we can contribute to the global efforts to restore your creation to its full splendour and glory that you, Lord God, declared to be good. We know that we are commanded to care for your creation, it is not an option for us. Please guide us, even in these difficult times, to consider your generous creation every day as we try to avoid contributing to waste, pollution and destruction.

You visit the earth and water it, you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide the people with grain, for so you have prepared it. (Ps 65: 9)

Lord Jesus, rest with us this night and bring us peace after the long day.

Psalm 25:5-6

Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long. Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

This evening’s prayers are taken from the Church of England’s COVID Prayers for the Nation.

Loving God, your Son Jesus Christ came that we might have life and have it abundantly;

pour out your blessing upon our nation;

where there is illness,

bring your healing touch; where there is fear, strengthen us with the knowledge of your presence;

where there is uncertainty, build us up in faith;

where there is dishonesty, lead us into truth;

where there is discord,

may we know the harmony of your love;

this we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

O blessed Jesus, Give me stillness of my soul in you. Let your mighty calmness reign in me; Rule me, O King of gentleness, King of peace.

Father God we bring our prayers to you

Lord we praise and thank you for all care homes offered vaccines. We thank you for tireless work carried out by medical staff and volunteers to bring this success. We continue to pray for vaccine programme to accelerate and meet their target of 15 million by mid February. Give government wisdom in making decisions for tighter border control as we learn of variants detected in UK. We pray for further approach to border control and test and trace system to protect the vaccine programme. We thank you that current vaccines are all effective against new variants and pray that if changes take place in variants give medical teams wisdom and skill to produce new vaccines to combat these variants.

Heavy snowfalls in the north have brought some disruption although people working from home and home schooling has helped road safety. As yet we are uncertain of schools opening. We continue to pray for all parents who are struggling with home schooling and working at the same time. Help them to work closely with the schools giving children a routine structure to their day, creating projects that capture their imagination and celebrate their achievements. Lord we pray you would give parents energy, wisdom and patience as they balance competing priorities.

Pray for teachers working tirelessly to encourage and inspire children in schools and over the internet. Thank you for gifts and talents you have given them. Give them continued strength as they spend long hours on zoom, wisdom and discernment to keep lessons interesting, to recognize what motivates each student, encouraging and fulfilling their potential.

When we are weary and face difficult days may we know your loving presence and the Holy Spirit walking alongside us strengthening us when we are weak and know His peace that surpasses all understanding.

In Jesus name we pray.

Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,

Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,

Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,

Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.

I arise today

Through the strength of the love of cherubim,

In obedience of angels,

In service of archangels,

In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,

In the prayers of patriarchs,
