Music

Music features highly in all the services at Emmanuel, and comes in many different styles, reflecting the different styles of worship that the church embodies.

Bands

Emmanuel has two bands.

Our morning service band is made up of a range of instruments (and skilled players!) and singers including flutes, cellos, drums, guitars and piano.  Each week a selection of these lead our All Age Worship at 9.30am using the best of modern worship and family songs. The band practices each Sunday morning before the 9.30 service and one Tuesday evening each month.

Our evening service band uses a contemporary style of leading worship drawing on music from a wide range of sources and their desire is that the music will enable us to encounter and engage with the Living God in worship. They have a number of different teams, using different styles (instrumental and guitar-based) and are growing all the time.

Choir

We have a choir of up to eleven regular members, supplemented from time to time by extra volunteers, which leads worship at our 11.00 am service each Sunday. They sing a range of canticles, traditional and modern hymns and some of the finest contemporary worship songs.

They also sing special choir anthems from time to time and especially look forward to preparing for the Christmas carol services when we welcome extra singers to augment the numbers up towards 25 or more.

Organ

The church is fortunate to have a magnificent and versatile 3 manual Walker organ which was restored by Nicholsons in 1985 and is registered in the British Organ Archive.

The organ is used for our 11.00 service each week to provide a strong lead to our worship and to play many favourite organ voluntaries before and after the service.

The organ is also used regularly to lead hymns at our 9.30am services and from time to time at 6.30pm.

In addition to our principal organist we have two gifted assistant organists but are always glad to hear from potential new assistants!

We are always looking for gifted musicians to get involved in all of these areas of ministry, so, if you feel you could contribute then please contact us via the church office, by email, or phone 020 8688 6676.
