Why are we talking about generosity?

We believe in a God of radical generosity.  In Jesus we see God’s amazing, undeserved grace given to us. Through the Holy Spirit, God pours his generous love into our hearts. When we read about the first Christian community in the book of Acts, we see a group of ordinary men and and women showing extraordinary generosity. It was how they demonstrated that the good news of Jesus changes lives.

At Emmanuel we want to be a community of Christians who live generously in every area of our lives. From opening our homes to others to forgiving those who hurt us, generosity takes many forms. Of course, this includes sacrificial giving — stewardship of our finances – but generosity is also expressed in acts of service and love.

Over the next three months our Sunday teaching will explore what it might look like for us to live a generous life for God and for others. At the centre of it all we will celebrate the message of Easter which, as Paul puts it in Galatians 2:20, is that God ‘loved me and gave himself for me’.
