Praise God for a great time together. At least 30 guests joined us, including some had had never experienced Rendezvous before. The team of helpers were brilliant including all those who helped so wonderfully with transport.
We particularly appreciated the tables and chairs being set-up by younger folk the afternoon before – it takes us oldies longer and our energy ebbs away much faster. The morning started with a hot cuppa for people as they arrived and then they chose what they thought they would like to do.
Activities included a Jigsaw table, Eddie’s special games, the making of bracelets and/or lavender bags, card-making, the making of flower centrepieces (so popular Valerie ran out of flowers towards the end, colouring and assembling hexagonal boxes, scratch art bookmarks or colouring in “Father God” cards and the decorating of milk container baskets and the sowing of mustard or cress seeds in them. There were also the ever popular Rummikub game, UNO or Dominoes to be played. Word Puzzles proved their worth again and some took the sheets to do at home to wile away an hour or two.
There was a bookstall and we trust the items taken by a number of our guests will be a great blessing. Halfway through the morning we all downed tools to participate in gentle fun exercises – standing if we could, but for some of us it would definitely not have been safe to try!
Lunch was about 12.30pm with sandwiches and salad, followed by yoghurts and fresh fruit and then tea or coffee. Jan King led us in a Thought for the Day between courses and contrasted what can happen with earthly fathers with the wonder of our Heavenly Father and how we could have a relationship with Him.
For the afternoon each table had a list of 4 musicals. Folk round the tables were encouraged to think of all the songs they knew for each one and later if you could sing them your table got an extra point. Later a hymn was sung and at 2.30pm we headed off home. The handiwork of the morning was taken home by some very pleased guests.
We are all looking forward to being back together again in the summer.
